This Genuine BMW timing chain tensioner piston mounts at the bottom of the timing system. Over time this piston seals can fail causing the timing chain to become slack. This can initally lead to excess valve train noise and over timeit can damage the other timing components. Replace the timing chain tensioner on your S62 V8 engine today.

This M6x16 mounting screw is used throughout the BMW model range on a variety of components. Most importantly, this is the latest updated version of the cam sprocket mounting bolt used in the E46 M3 S54 engine (and MZ3 and Z4 M). The original VAN0S-cam gear mounting bolts are known for weakness and a sheared bolt will quickly lead to VAN0S or terminal engine failure. 12 are required for S54 VAN0S bolt replacement (6 per cam sprocket). All other quantities vary based on application.

Timing chain guides are a main failure point in the otherwise bulletproof S62. Common failure symptoms include excessive vibration or “slap” from the timing chain, and the possibility of plastic particles throughout the oil. Symptoms typically begin to surface between 80,000 and 100,000 miles.
