The Stage 3 uses a semi-metallic and carbon clutch for strong engagement and high torque capacity (it's rated for 425 ft-lbs). Stage 3 is the same as Stage 4 but with double-sprung clutch for a smoother and quieter engagement. It's a more street-friendly version of the Stage 4 and popular among the turbo E30 crowd.

The stock clutch in the M20 E30 is not terrible but can become quickly overheated and lead to glazing on the flywheel surface and inconsistent engagement.
